It’s a week of romantic movies and this is one that your significant other might enjoy. The Time Traveler’s Wife is now out on DVD and Blu-ray and it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day (if you’re celebrating, of course).

image: Warner Bros.

The film stars Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams as star-crossed lovers, of sorts, since he keeps popping in and out of her life since he travels through time. I have to admit that seeing the previews, there were some moments that kinda creeped me out (he goes to see her as a child and looks at her lovingly – ugh).

In the movie, artist Clare Abshire (McAdams) “shares a deep emotional bond with Henry De Tamble (Bana), a handsome librarian who travels involuntarily through time. Knowing they can be separated without warning, Clare and Henry treasure the moments they have together, imbuing them with the yearning and passion of two people imprisoned by time…and set free by love.”

I can’t decide whether that plot sounds romantic or just plain sad. I guess I’m going to find out since I will probably be watching this in the next few days.

The Time Traveler’s Wife comes to theaters tomorrow and you might be going on your own because you genuinely want to see it but some of you might be seeing this chick flick to please someone else in your life. In that case, you might want to know more about the movie so that you can at least pretend to be interested (who knows? You might actually enjoy it or want to see it!).

image: New Line Cinema

The film is based on the best-selling novel of the same name and tells the story of a love that transcends time. Henry (Eric Bana) was born with a rare genetic anomaly that makes him skip back and forth through time without his control. Talk about a serious disability! How can you have a stable relationship or hold down a job?

Apparently, someone is willing to see past his birth defect. Clare (Rachel McAdams) has been in love with Henry her whole life and believes that they are destined to be together despite the fact that he could just randomly disappear at any time. Talk about a patient and understanding woman! She’s determined to build a life with Henry even though it is constantly disrupted by his time-traveling. In the previews, he even spills the beans about the daughter he saw them having in the future. Wow.

Is it just me or does Rachel McAdams seem hell-bent on being in movies about “enduring relationships” that are put to the ultimate test by things like time-traveling and Alzheimer’s (she kept forgetting who her husband was in The Notebook and he’d tell her the whole story again all the time just so they could have a few brief moments of love every day)? Oh well.

If you’re interested, here’s the trailer. I try not to but I laugh every time thinking about all the guys who could totally try to use this trick to pick up women with lines like “I was born with a birth defect that lets me see the future and I saw that we were meant to be together. You should give me your phone number.” Yeah…
