“Dear John” Wins Box Office

Somebody had to dethrone Avatar eventually and I guess it’s not surprising that it’s the sappy film, Dear John, despite the fact that it got a palsy 29% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film stars Amanda Seyfriend and Channing Tatum in an adaptation of the romantic Nicolas Sparks novel, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

First Look: “The Eagle of the Ninth”

If you went to school in North America, it’s highly possible that you had to read Rosemary Sutcliff’s historical novel, The Eagle of the Ninth, at some point.  If you enjoyed it, you might be happy to hear that a film adaptation is on its way starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell and Donald Sutherland.  It is set to be released sometime in 2010 but I haven’t been able to find a firm date.

Fighting is now out on DVD and I think I’m going to rent it.  The film stars Channing Tatum as Shawn MacArthur, a small-town boy who ends up in New York City with nothing.  To try to make ends meet, he starts selling knock-offs on the street but, after he meets scam artist Harvet Boarden (Terrence Howard), his life changes and he begins a career as a streetfighter.
