While it may be a bit harsh, I think it’s genius. They could have taken away the internet completely but instead they found a solution to protect themselves and protect their children.

Why does Brad Pitt think it’s important for his children not to Google him?

“I don’t want to make myself dependent on what other people think,” explained Pitt to Bild, a German publication.

It’s been 10 years in the making but, finally, Quentin Tarantino’s newest film, Inglourious Basterds, is hitting theaters today. If you’ve seen any of the promo spots on TV, you’re probably aware of how impressed most critics have been with the movie (Roger Ebert even gave it four stars and so far Rotten Tomatoes is listing it as 89% fresh!).

image: Universal Pictures

The film is set in World War II but don’t expect it to mesh with everything you’ve read in your history books (or lived through, in some cases). If you are familiar with Tarantino’s work, you will know that he has a tendency to get carried away, usually in a good way, and, from what I’ve heard, this movie is no exception.

He loves to include multiple perspectives in his films so I’m not surprised that there are two storylines going on – the first is based on a true story and “follows a group of Jewish-American soldiers whose mission is to take down a group of Nazis.” The other plot involves “a young Jewish woman who seeks to avenge the death of her parents by this Nazi group.”

While Brad Pitt has been the “big name” associated with the film, there’s all sorts of buzz surrounding the performance delivered by Mike Myers. He is hidden behind some pretty heavy make up and an accent but he apparently makes an impact in his small role. Some are describing it as being similar to Tom Cruise’s role in Tropic Thunder since, like Cruise, Myers has suffered in terms of popularity in recent years.

It’s a long film (2 hours and 33 minutes) and I’ve got a busy weekend planned so I’m not sure if I will be able to see it this weekend but I definitely want to see it soon. Here’s the trailer:

The movie Seven (1995) will be released on Blu-ray tomorrow and I’m sure many people will want to pick up a copy. I can remember almost everything about the first time I saw this movie about a pair of detectives who are hunting down a ritualistic serial killer whose crimes are based on the seven deadly sins.

Detective William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) is about to retire but, before he can leave, he’s paired with the young Detective David Mills (Brad Pitt) who has voluntarily transferred into the precinct. I’m sure Mills regrets the decision when the partners begin investigating some of the most gruesome (and confusing) crimes you can imagine.

The story is very well-crafted and the acting is amazing but, of course, it’s also a very dark film. The action is slow and deliberate and relies minimally on special effects which is fine since the script is strong enough on its own.

The cast is also excellent. In addition to Freeman and Pitt, the film stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Pitt’s wife, Tracy, as well as Kevin Spacey, who had just delivered an incredible performance in The Usual Suspects (which was released about a month before Seven).

If you haven’t seen this movie, I would strongly suggest it. I wouldn’t recommend eating anything while you’re watching it, though.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will be released on DVD today and, if you haven’t seen it already, I encourage you to pick up a copy. The film stars Brad Pitt in the title role as a man who was born with all the physical characteristics of an elderly person and then goes through his lifetime aging backwards.

It’s interesting because it shows the striking similarities between the beginning and the end of the life cycle and focuses on the importance of what happens in the middle. Things definitely get more complicated when Benjamin falls in love with Daisy (Cate Blanchett).

The film is visually stunning, well-directed, incredibly written and masterfully executed by all of the actors. I can’t even begin to explain how amazing the make-up was, with the artists managing to make Brad Pitt look old and wrinkly and them remarkably shaving about 10 years off the faces of both Pitt and Blanchett.

Benjamin Button won three Oscars and garnered another 24 awards and 68 nominations.
