Wimbledon: James Blake Yells at Pam Shriver

At Wimbledon on Tuesday, James Blake was eliminated by Robin Haase in straight sets. After the loss, Blake questioned his future in tennis and hinted at retirement. But that wasn’t the story of the match.

ESPN tennis analyst Pam Shriver was talking so loud from her broadcast spot overlooking the court that the players could hear her. Though Blake wasn’t mad at what she was saying, he was definitely miffed at how loud she was.

“Amazing you used to play tennis,” snapped Blake during the match. “I can still hear you.”

At that point, Shriver should have apologized and lowered her voice. But instead she got arrogant and obnoxious, telling viewers, “James just yelled at me. I’m way above the court, but evidently he can hear me. He’s got rabbit ears.”

After the next point, Blake yelled, “You have to be an ass about it, too? And act like I’m at fault.”

Shriver continued by completely out of line: “And there he is, talking again. It’s amazing. I had no idea.”

ESPN should be embarrassed by Shriver’s behavior and she definitely owes Blake an apology.
