What Went Wrong For The U.S. In These Olympics

The U.S. women’s soccer team sought redemption and got it after beating Brazil 1 -0 to win the gold medal.

Shawn Johnson turned in an amazing performance on the dreaded balance beam to win a gold medal.

Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor successfully defended their gold medal from the 2004 Olympic games in Athens with another gold medal in Beijing.

And, of course, there was Michael Phelps, who won an astounding eight gold medals in eight different swimming events.

There was a lot that went right for the U.S. in the 2008 Olympics. But there was also a lot that went wrong.

Daniel Cormier, an Olympic wrestler, dropped out of the games after suffering from kidney failure.

• Sprinter Wallace Spearmon was disqualified after he ran out of his lane during his race.

Tyson Gay, a runner with lots of expectations to do well, injured his leg at the Olympic trials and didn’t even make the finals for the 100m.

• Boxer Gary Russell, Jr. almost passed out when he was trying to make weight and was forced to drop out of the games altogether.

Kate Ziegler, a swimmer who was expected to medal, did not make the final races in any of her events.

• And last but not least, gymnast Samantha Peszek was reduced to competing in one event due to a sprained ankle.

But let’s not focus on the negative. With both the men’s and women’s basketball teams headed for gold medal matches, there’s still plenty of “good” to come!

Thank you for those updates. For the most part I am missing a lot of the games and most of these I didn’t even know about it.
