U.S. Women Deserved to Lose World Cup

The United States women had it won. They had done all the hard work to reach the championship game of the 2011 Women’s World Cup. In their final game, they took on a Japan team, though while a scrappy bunch, that wasn’t nearly as talented or experienced.

Despite their massive advantage, the U.S. women got cocky and overlooked Japan’s squad. They had numerous chances to put the match on ice but continuously failed to execute.

Japan kept chipping away and chipping away. They didn’t deviate from their game plan and showed heart by the ton. Eventually, the Japanese women slipped by the Americans and stunned the world.

You can call it an upset or say the U.S. women were the better team. But the truth of the matter is that the team that deserved to win ended up doing so. The team that deserved to lose, the American women, lost.
