Tyson Chandler was a big reason why the Dallas Mavericks won their first NBA championship last season. On the first day that agents were allowed to talk to teams, Chandler apparently didn’t like what the Mavs had to say.
Said Chandler to ESPN: “I really think I’m going to be on a new team come training camp. I’m really taking a hard look at all of my options, trying to see what best suits me.”
If the Mavs actually do lose Chandler, that would be devastating to their hopes of repeating. Chandler is undoubtedly the best defender on the team. Without him, the Mavs wouldn’t be nearly as difficult to score on.
Then again, Chandler could just be upping the pressure on the Mavs to offer more money. Do we really think Mark Cuban is going to lose a bidding war over a player who brought him a championship? I highly doubt it.
