Tyrus Thomas Injury Update – Torn Meniscus

Bad news for the Charlotte Bobcats. Tyrus Thomas, who has arguably been the best player on the team this year on a per-minute basis, is out approximately eight weeks after suffering a torn meniscus. The injury, which is in his left knee, was discovered after his knee swelled up prior to Thursday’s game.

It’s not known whether Thomas will undergo surgery, however it is a strong possibility. On the season, Thomas is averaging 11.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.65 blocks in only 21.6 minutes per game. He is also shooting 47.5% from the field and 81.4% from the charity stripe.

With Thomas out, expect the Bobcats to use Kwame Brown and Nazr Mohammed more. Dominic McGuire could also see a rise in minutes.

On Thursday without Thomas, the Bobcats were able to defeat the Philadelphia 76ers by a final score of 100-97. DJ Augustin led the way with 31 points and eight assists.
