The new-look New York Knicks are built around Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire and Chauncey Billups. However, to become a good team, they need role players to step up and contribute. On Thursday, Toney Douglas did just that — to put it mildly. New York’s backup guard buried nine three-pointers on his way to a game-high 29 points as the Knicks demolished the Grizzlies, 120-99.
Toney Douglas finished the game 9-for-12 on three-pointers and also played stellar defense on the other end.
“No matter if a man was on me,” said Toney Douglas after the game, “anything I threw up was going in.”
At 35-32, the Knicks are the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. The Grizzlies, 37-32, are holding on for dear life in the Western Conference playoff race. They are in a battle with the Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns for the eighth seed.
