In the Baltimore Ravens win over the New England Patriots, tight end Todd Heap was injured in the fourth quarter. Video of the incident made the injury appear to be serious. Luckily for Heap and the Ravens, X-rays on his back were negative.
As it turns out, Heap could very well be able to play this weekend against the Indianapolis Colts.
Said John Harbaugh, the coach of the Ravens: “He’s got some lower-back-type spasms. That stuff can be tough, but usually you can work through that pretty well. So he should be fine.”
On the season, the 29-year-old Heap had 53 catches for 593 yards and six touchdowns. It was his best season since the 2006 campaign when he had 73 catches for 765 yards and six touchdown.
While the Ravens got away without have to the throw the ball very much against the Patriots, they will likely have to air it out more against the Colts. That could open up opportunities for Heap — assuming he plays, that is.
