All eyes were on Carlos Beltran in his first game as a member of the San Francisco Giants. The Giants, who traded for Carlos Beltran hours earlier, were taking on the Philadelphia Phillies in a battle of the two best teams in the National League.
Carlos Beltran was silent in his Giants debut. It ended up not mattering because San Francisco had Tim Lincecum on the mound. After Pedro Sandoval hit a solo home run in the 2nd inning, the Phillies would never trail again on their way to a 4-1 victory.
Tim Lincecum, who was recently slowed by a stomach ailment, pitched six scoreless innings. The win improved his record to 9-8 and his ERA lowered to 2.78.
As for Carlos Beltran, he went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts.
The 65-39 Phillies have the best record in the NL. However, the Giants, 61-44, are definitely within striking distance.
