Super Saver Wins, Calvin Borel Shines

If you are placing money on the Kentucky Derby, your best bet is to follow Calvin Borel. The jockey won the Kentucky Derby for the third time in four years. This time, Calvin Borel steered Super Saver to victory.

Like he usually does, Borel kept Super Saver close to the rail on his race around the track. By the time he crossed the finish line, Super Saver had a comfortable lead and Borel was once again dreaming of a Triple Crown.

Once Super Saver got the lead, Borel was confident in his horse.

Said Borel: “I knew nothing was going to run him down.”

Borel will ride Super Saver at the Preakness. If he wins that race, he’ll go for the Triple Crown at the Belmont Stakes. It has been 32 years since a horse won the Triple Crown. Seattle Slew was the last horse to accomplish the feat.

Todd Pletcher, Super Saver’s trainer, believes that Borel is the right jockey for the job.

“Calvin already said he’s going to win the Triple Crown so I guess we’d better go there,” said Pletcher when asked about the Preakness.
