The Cleveland Cavaliers recently set the all-time NBA record by losing 26 straight games. On Wednesday, the Cavs went from the lowest of the low to feeling pretty good about themselves. In a stunning turn of events, the Cavs beat the Los Angeles Lakers in Cleveland by a final score of 104-99.
How could this happen? Lakers coach Phil Jackson points to the fact that this was the team’s last contest before the All-Star break.
Said Jackson: “I think they took the break before the game started.”
Ramon Sessions came off the bench for the Cavs to pour in 32 points and eight assists. He hit 9-of-16 shots from the field and 13-of-14 from the charity stripe. Antawn Jamison chipped in 19 points and ten rebounds, while Anthony Parker had 18 points and nine assists.
Kobe Bryant, who left the arena before talking to reporters, had a night to forget. He was only 8-for-24 from the field and also turned the ball over seven times. Pau Gasol had 30 points and 20 rebounds, however Jackson ripped into him numerous times for lapses on defense.
The Lakers dropped to 38-19 — nine games behind the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference. The Cavs have the worst record in the NBA (10-46) but this win could very well help turn around their season.
