Stanford Tops USC in 3OT Classic

Stanford, the No. 6 ranked team in the land, had a fight on their hands at USC against the Trojans. But Andrew Luck and the Cardinal kept scratching and clawing until they took home a 56-48 victory in triple overtime.

Luck finished the game 28-for-39 for 302 yards and three touchdown passes. He also ran the ball nine times for 39 yards and a touchdown. Not only did Luck keep Stanford’s national championship hopes alive, he helped himself in the Heisman voting too.

Matt Barkley, the star QB for USC who will one day join Luck in the NFL, wasn’t bad himself. He had 286 passing yards and three touchdowns. However, he completed only 28-of-45 passes.

Next week, Stanford takes on Oregon State. Things get even tougher the following week, when the Cardinal host Oregon. At that point, both Oregon and Stanford could very well be top-five teams.
