In one of the most amazing comebacks of all-time, the St. Louis Cardinals have won the 2011 World Series. Once 10.5 games back in the NL Wild Card race, and down to their final strike in two different innings of the World Series, the Cardinals are now champions.
Game 7 actually didn’t start out very well for the Cardinals. The Texas Rangers scored two runs in the top of the first inning. However, that was all the scoring the Rangers would do on the night.
In the bottom of the first inning, David Freese tied the game with a two-run double. The Cardinals would take on four more runs to win Game 7 by a final count of 6-2.
Chris Carpenter, who went six innings on there days of rest, got the win. Relievers Arthur Rhodes, Octavio Dotel, Lance Lynn and Jason Motte pitched three perfect innings to seal the deal and hand St. Louis their 11th Major League Baseball World Series championship.
