In the fourth quarter, the Utah Jazz were charging hard against the San Antonio Spurs. Superstar point guard Deron Williams had 17 of his 39 points in the final stanza, however it wasn’t enough for the Jazz to overcome the Spurs, who won 112-105. It was San Antonio’s 10th win in their last 11 games, while the Jazz lost for the sixth straight time.
The Spurs had six players in double figures — led by their international backcourt. Manu Ginobili, from Argentina, had 26 points and seven assists. Tony Parker, who grew up in France, had 23 points and six assists.
Despite the Jazz’s poor play of late, the Spurs didn’t take this game lightly.
Said Parker: “We knew they were going to play with a lot of energy and give us their best shot.”
The Jazz, who went 0-5 on their recent five-game road trip, returned home for their Wednesday night game. The result ultimately was the same. That said, Jazz coach Jerry Sloan saw improvement.
“Our guys played much harder than they have been,” said Sloan. “They put themselves in a position to have a chance to win.”
The Spurs made sure that chance didn’t come to fruition as they improved to an NBA best 39-7 on the season. The Jazz fell to 27-19.
