Sources: Red Sox Close on Trade for Rich Harden

According to sources, the Boston Red Sox are close to gambling by acquiring Rich Harden from the Oakland A’s. While Rich Harden has a lot of potential, he is one of the most injury-prone players in all of baseball. That said, he’s been healthy for the month of July and that apparently was enough to convince the Red Sox.

Since making his first start of the season on July 1st, Rich Harden is 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. He has 30 strikeouts in 29 innings and is coming off his best outing in which he gave up only three hits and two runs in six innings of work against the Tampa Bay Rays.

If the trade goes down, expect Rich Harden to immediately step into the Red Sox starting rotation. He’ll likely stay there … until he gets injured again.

As far as the A’s, they would receive Lars Anderson from Boston. Lars Anderson is a first baseman prospect who is considered a middle of the road prospect.
