The San Francisco Giants stunned the Phillies in Philadelphia in Game 1. With Roy Oswalt on the mound, the Phillies bounced back and won Game 2 by a final score of 6-1. Oswalt went eighth innings and allowed only three hits and one run while striking out nine batters. The Phillies acquired Oswalt in the middle of the season in a trade with the Houston Astros.
In the first inning, Jimmy Rollins drew a bases loaded walk to put the Phillies on the board first. Then in the fifth inning, Cody Ross — the Giants’ Game 1 hero — hit another homer to tie the game. However, from then on, it was all Phillies. Rollins supplied the killing blow when he hit a three-run double in the seventh.
Bruce Bochy, the manager of the Giants, admitted that Oswalt was dominant.
Said Bochy: “He threw really great. He was on and he had his stuff.”
Game 3 of the series is on Tuesday in San Francisco. Cole Hamels will go for the Phillies, while Matt Cain will be the starting pitcher for the Giants.
