Rockies Acquire Mark Ellis from A’s

The Oakland Athletics have traded Mark Ellis to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for a minor league. The Rockies desperately needed a second baseman and Ellis could fill that void. Last year, Ellis hit .291 with an on-base percentage of .358.

This year, Ellis isn’t doing as well. He’s hitting .217 in 217 at-bats. However, he lost his job earlier this season after going on the DL with an injured hamstring. As a starter, he may return to form with the Rockies.

The A’s got Bruce Billings, who is currently in AAA, from the Rockies. Billings is a 25-year-old right-handed pitcher. To replace Ellis, Oakland will continue to start Jemile Weeks at second base.
