Red Sox Continue to Choke

This is getting hard to watch. The Boston Red Sox are choking to death and are on the brink of blowing a huge lead in the AL Wild Card race. After losing to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday, the Red Sox are now tied with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Not surprisingly, poor starting pitching was the main reason for the latest Red Sox loss. The surprising part was that Josh Beckett was the goat this time. In six innings, the usually dependable Beckett gave up six earned runs.

Matt Wieters hit a homer in the second inning to tie the game and the Orioles never looked back on their way to the 6-3 victory.

MVP candidate Adrian Gonzalez isn’t worried quite yet: “We win every game, we’re in the playoffs. It’s definitely in our hands.”

The problem with that idea is that the Red Sox just aren’t winning that often anymore. Their next chance to avoid a total choke job is tonight against the Orioles when Erik Bedard faces off against Zach Britton.
