The Boston Red Sox completed their choke. In their final game of the year, the Red Sox blew a ninth inning lead against the Baltimore Orioles. Leading 3-2 heading into the ninth, the Orioles pulled out a 4-3 victory.
Now the Red Sox play the waiting game. If the Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Yankees, the Rays make the playoffs. If the Yankees win, the Red Sox and rays will play in a tiebreaker.
With two outs in the ninth inning, the Orioles got three straight hits from Chris Davis, Nolan Reimold and Robert Andino. Jonathan Papelbon, on the mound for the Red Sox, blew his third game of the season and suffered his first loss.
The Orioles didn’t have much to play for but to win in walk-off fashion surely help the excitement level surrounding the team heading into next season.
