Pictures: Dan Wheldon Remembered

It was a sad day for the sports world on Sunday. Even though there was NFL football and playoff baseball to keep fans entertained, that was all overshadowed by Dan Wheldon’s death. Dan Wheldon died on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the last race of the season for IndyCar.

Dan Wheldon’s death occurred on the 11th lap of the race. In a massive accident that sent numerous cars into the air, Dan Wheldon suffered injuries that were described as “unsurvivable”.

Though IndyCar hasn’t had a racer die since 2006, Dan Wheldon dying hit especially hard because he was regarded as a great person and a gentle soul. He will definitely be missed.
