The Philadelphia 76ers need size at center. In the 2011 NBA Draft, the Sixers tried to address that need. With the 16th overall selection, Philadelphia selected Nikola Vucevic out of USC — a seven-footer with a massive wingspan and standing reach.
However, can Vucevic play? I’m not so sure. He had his moments at USC but he oftentimes looked overmatched against NBA-level athletes. He’ll need to continue to improve to make it as a pro.
In the second round, the Sixers took Lavoy Allen with the 50th overall pick. Allen is a power forward who didn’t do much at Temple during his college career. He may be another example of drafting need over talent.
