Paul Pierce Returns, Celtics Win

Perhaps all the Boston Celtics needed was their best player. Losers of their first three games this season, the Celtics welcomed back Paul Pierce and then welcomed themselves to the win column with a 96-85 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

In his debut, Pierce had 12 points, five assists and four rebounds. He hit half of his eight shots from the field and both of his free throws. The Celtics were led by Jermaine O’Neal and Brandon Bass, who each had 17 points for Boston.

The Pistons got 22 points, nine rebounds and four assists from Greg Monroe, however no other player on the team scored more than 11 points.

Since no team has a winning record yet in the Atlantic Division, the Celtics aren’t in a bad position despite their 1-3 record. As for the 0-3 Pistons, they are already looking forward to the lottery.
