Orioles Ink Justin Duchscherer

When physically and mentally healthy, Justin Duchscherer is a heck of a pitcher. In fact, he’s been named to the All-Star team twice in his career. However, being healthy hasn’t been a small task for the talented hurler. The Baltimore Orioles decided to bet on his health by signing Duchscherer to a one-year deal worth as much as $4.5 million.

Duchscherer has experienced injuries to his elbow, shoulder and back. Last season, he only made five starts before undergoing hip surgery that kept him out for the remainder of the season. Since the 2008 season, Duchscherer has only pitched a total of 28 innings.

In addition to his physical ailments, Duchscherer has also battled depression in recent years. Thankfully, he reportedly has his depression under control.

Duchscherer’s contract with the Orioles is loaded with incentives. At the very least, he’s guaranteed $700K.
