Jamie Moyer is 47 years old. He doesn’t really have a fastball anymore and he spends most of his time throwing in the 60s. However, the starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies can still get the job done.
At an age when most professional baseball players have been retired for more than a dozen years, Moyer was able to pitch the Phillies past the New York Yankees. In eight innings of work, Moyer struck out five while allowing only three hits and two runs. The Phillies won 6-3 and Moyer improved his record on the season to 7-6.

Yankees superstar Derek Jeter explained why Moyer is still a viable major league pitcher.
Said Jeter: “He’s been doing it for a long time, a really long time. He never throws the ball over the plate. That goes to show you don’t have to throw hard. He knows what he’s doing — that’s why he’s been around so long.”
Although this very well could be Moyer’s last season, he’s showing enough life that the Phillies can count on him to go out on the mound and give the team a good chance to win every fifth day.
Explained Moyer: “I don’t think that I’m old. So I don’t believe it. Regardless of what people think or say, I still feel like I can go out and compete, and that’s my ultimate job.”
