The New Jersey Nets have stopped trying to trade for Carmelo Anthony. On Monday, the Nets proved they don’t need Carmelo Anthony to win games, as New Jersey topped the Denver Nuggets by a final score of 115-99. Carmelo Anthony led the Nuggets with 37 points but it wasn’t against a motivated Nets squad.
Devin Harris, who was part of the trade rumors involving Carmelo Anthony, had 18 assists to go along with nine points. Brook Lopez led New Jersey with 27 points, while Travis Outlaw (21) and Anthony Morrow (18) also scored well for the Nets.
Since Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov pulled the plug on the Carmelo Anthony trade, the Nets have won five of their last eight games. Prior to that, with the trade rumors swirling, the Nets began the season 10-31.
It’s likely that Carmelo Anthony will still get traded before the trade deadline, however the New York Knicks are now the favorite. The Nets may decide to reconsider trading for Carmelo Anthony, however they just showed the Nuggets that they don’t need him in order to win.
