With NBA training camps now underway, it is time to look at the latest NBA power rankings. Offseason moves are all but finished and teams will start assessing what they have. We’ll do the same and name the best of the best in this training camp edition of the 2009-10 NBA power rankings:
1. Los Angeles Lakers
The top of these power rankings is an easy call. The Lakers were very good last season and they have all the pieces to be even better this year. Watch out.
2. Boston Celtics
The Celtics are back, reloaded and healthy. If they can stay healthy, the Celtics have the experience and the mental toughness to beat any team in a seven-game series.
3. Cleveland Cavaliers
Even though the Cavs had a poor finish to last season, don’t forget that they won 66 games during the regular season. On paper, they look even better. That is scary.
4. Orlando Magic
Even though the Magic represented the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals last season, they are only fourth in the NBA power rankings last season. Due to their youth, they’ll need to prove their spot all over again.
5. San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs and the Celtics are in the same boat. San Antonio improved but they need to have a healthy season to have a chance of toppling the Lakers.
