NASCAR Makes Changes in the Ranks

People are always moving from job to job as they rise among the ranks of people working in the racing industry. This week there was a notable change in the upper ranks of NASCAR as candidates to fill the position of Sprint Cup Series director were being interviewed at the NASCAR offices. The word is that the individual picked for this position will be trained by outgoing director John Darby, before he heads up the stairs to fill a managerial role that will let him take a greater hand in the decisions being made.

The Sprint Cup Series will have a new director for 2010

The Sprint Cup Series will have a new director for 2010

The words coming down the rumor mill say that Darby will be heading up the Research and Development Center, but no confirmation of this has been forthcoming. NASCAR has been pretty silent about their plans for many aspects of the 2010 Sprint Cup Series season and we could be in for a few surprises, before the racing starts.

Apparently, Darby is in no hurry to move up the stairs and NASCAR wants to take their time in finding a suitable replacement for Darby, before they appoint him to his new position and make an announcement about what exactly his duties will include. We were able to confirm that he would be overseeing technical aspects of the racing, maybe in all three NASCAR series, which will mean he’ll have a very important job.

Darby originally moved into the job as director of the Sprint Cup Series after Gary Nelson departed after the 2001 Sprint Cup Series season. He’s highly respected by all in the industry and should fill whatever job they have in mind for him admirably. He was instrumental in helping to rid the series of widespread cheating that hampered the growth of the industry since it first started in 1949, until today. He’ll have a tough job that will require the best of him, whatever they put him to work at, and a few years from now we’ll be talking about what a great job he did.

Moving to a new job and responsibilities is just a normal part of life in NASCAR if you’re working in the industry, because if you aren’t going up, you could be on your way down the ladder of success. Still, this is a life changing event for both Darby and whoever moves into his old job.
