I admit it. We were dead wrong. After questioning the wisdom of the Tampa Bay Rays for starting Matt Moore in Game 1 against the Texas Rangers, Moore went out there and dominated. And really, “dominated” doesn’t give the kid enough credit.
In seven innings of work, Moore gave up two hits and two walks. He struck out six batters and only needed 98 pitches. Riding Moore’s masterful game, the Rays cruised to a 9-0 victory on the road over the favored Rangers.
Moore is considered to be the best pitching prospect in all of baseball. If you didn’t believe then, you believe now. The lefty has a fantastic fastball and a devastating changeup. Even though he had only one start in his big league career before tonight, he showed no stage fright at all.
With James Shields, Jeremy Hellickson and David Price ready to go in the next three games for the Rays, the Rangers are in a lot of trouble.
