In baseball’s worst kept secret, the Florida Marlins officially hired Ozzie Guillen on Wednesday. It was such a bad secret that even MLB.com accidentally spilled the beans.
For the Marlins, their fans, their players and their owner, Wednesday was an exciting day.
Said Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria: “Welcome to a new era in Marlins baseball.”
“It’s a big, big step in my career, a new chapter,” said Guillen, who received a four-year contract. “Hopefully I can bring energy, flavor and enthusiasm, but the most important thing is a winning team.”
Next season, the Marlins move into a new ballpark. The move is expected to bring extra excitement to the team — not to mention more money to spend on players.
“We got the stadium, and we got the manager,” said outfielder Mike Stanton.
Now we’ll see if the Marlins can get back to winning baseball games.
