Leon Powe and Tony Allen helped the Boston Celtics win the 2008 NBA championship. However, the Celtics dropped both players since then and they’ve both ended up with the Memphis Grizzlies. On Wednesday, Leon Powe and Tony Allen got their revenge by winning in Boston by a final score of 90-87.
Tony Allen, who has emerged as a starter for the Grizzlies, had eight points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes. Off the bench, Powe had 13 points in 17 minutes — which included a number of key buckets in the fourth quarter. Doc Rivers was impressed.
Said the Celtics head coach: “Leon Powe was the baddest man on the planet tonight.”
The win was an important one for the Grizzlies and a costly one for the Celtics. Memphis now has a good grasp on the eighth seed in the Western Conference, while the Celtics now fall out of first place in the East. Boston has a pair of former champions to thank.
