July 17th Louisiana Downs Recap
Good main track and off the turf following overnight storms. Upgraded to fast by race 3. Fair track the last two racedays gave way to a card dominated by early-pressing types.
Jose Riquelme booted home a trio of price horses, including a pair with trainer Jerry Cart . Automatically makes Riquelme/Cart a profitable combo to watch. Leading rider Don Simington is the money rider for Cart, so Riquelme aboard means a few more value points.
As mentioned above, prominent throughout types did well on Friday, and horses compromised by the bias included my best bet A Bit Touchy (race 3), but he never looked comfortable.
Got a 5-1 top home to kick off the card, but my luck changed with five consecutive tops landing the place from races 3-7. One of those odd off the turf days…whatcha gonna do!
July 18th Preview
Saturday’s 10-race card includes a pair of juvenile grass stakes races. Has not rained since Thursday evening, so hopefully we can return to the sod.
My best bet is Kipper In Space (race 1). He exits a fine effort versus similar and owns early/pressing speed.
E Tiny’s (race 10) is my longshot to watch. He took the overland route around two turns last time, and he cuts back for profitable outfit.
My daily selections have been added to the Louisiana Downs website. We also have live streaming video on the site, so you catch my paddock reports as well.
