Kevin Durant Brings Gold to America

Kevin Durant is officially a world superstar. The forward for the Oklahoma City Thunder carried Team USA to a gold medal in the 2010 World Championships by scoring 28 points against Turkey. Team USA won the game 81-64, as Durant hit 10-of-17 field goals and 7-of-13 three-pointers while also adding five rebounds and two blocked shots.

“Our only option was to come out here and get a gold,” said Durant, “and it feels really good to bring this back home to the States.”

Team USA had a lot of doubters but Durant wouldn’t let this team lose.

“A lot of people thought we were undersized and we didn’t have a center, we didn’t have too many big guys. People thought we were going to get killed on the inside, but we played tough, hung in there, and stayed strong, focused,” said Lamar Odom, whose championship experience was evident as he was the second best player on the floor for Team USA — scoring 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

The gold medal at the World Championships was America’s first in 16 years.

Said coach Mike Krzyzewski: “We thought we could win, we just felt it would be a lot harder, and they worked real hard and they made it happen.”
