Earlier in the month, Jose Reyes of the New York Mets was diagnosed with a hyperactive thyroid. To treat the condition, doctors told him to rest and change his diet. On Tuesday, it was determined that Reyes can once again resume playing baseball due to his thyroid levels having normalized.
This was obviously great news for the Mets and for Reyes.
Said Mets GM Omar Minaya: “It’s a good sign for us today and, hopefully, it will be a good sign for the rest of the year. Today is a good day.”
Regarded as one of the best players in the baseball, the 26-year-old shortstop has found it difficult to stay on the field. He only played 36 games last season due to hamstring issues. The uncertainty of the hyperactive thyroid threatened his 2010 baseball season.
With the Mets season set to start on April 5th, it’s unknown whether or not Reyes will be ready to go. That said, Reyes has insisted that he is healthy and wants to play … so my guess is that he’ll be in uniform on Day 1.
