It’s safe to say that Johnny Jolly will never play in the NFL again. In fact, Jolly may never be a free man again. The defensive end for the Green Bay Packers was arrested on Friday for having more than 400 grams of codeine when he was pulled over by a cop on a traffic stop. On Wednesday, a judge denied him bond, which means Jolly will have to stay in jail until at least April 20th.
Jolly was suspended all of last season for the Packers following a drug charge from 2008. His latest drug charge is much more serious because he’s a repeat offender.
The 6-foot-3, 325 pounder is from Houston, Texas, the birth place of purple drank — a drug created by mixing codeine, 7-Up and jolly ranchers (no relation).
Purple drank is also what derailed the career of JaMarcus Russell, the former No. 1 overall pick of the Oakland Raiders. Jolly might not have just derailed his football career, he very well could have derailed his freedom for a long, long time.
