Is the NBA Labor Deal 95% Complete?

If you believe Howard Beck of The New York Times, the NBA labor deal is 95% complete. The writer says that the main stumbling block remains the BRI split but that most every other issue has been agreed upon by both sides. If that is true, the NBA lockout could end rather quickly if the two sides can agree on the split.

According to Beck, the areas where the players and owners have agreed on include: the luxury tax rate, the length of contract, the annual raises, the midlevel exception, the amnesty clause and a new “stretch” exception.

As it stands, the NBA owners still want a 50/50 BRI split. The players, on the other hand, want at least 52.5% of the pie.

David Stern has canceled games through Nov. 30th. However, let’s hope that the end is as close as figuring out how to split the 2.5% difference between the two sides.
