Giants Release Aaron Rowand, Miguel Tejada

The San Francisco Giants are desperate to find their footing in time to reach the 2011 baseball postseason. As it stands, the 2010 World Series champions are six games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West. Their latest move was to release a pair of veterans in Aaron Rowand and Miguel Tejada.

Roward, the team’s second highest paid player, hasn’t been good in years. The 34-year-old is hitting just .233 this season with four homers and 21 RBIs. He has battled injuries the last few seasons and the Giants are apparently tired of waiting for him to return to form.

In the offseason, the Giants let World Series MVP Edgar Renteria leave and replaced him with Miguel Tejada. Looking back on that decision, the Giants wish they could have played it differently. The 37-year-old Tejada is hitting just .239 this season to go along with four homers and 26 RBIs.

After playing the Cubs on Wednesday, the Giants start a huge series against the Diamondbacks on Friday.
