Fair Grounds Recap – Jan 30th
Fast main track and off the turf. Early/pressing types (2 wire jobs) best in the six sprints. No wire jobs in the five routes as patient types held the edge.
Hat trick for Shaun Bridgmohan, and two of his winners were saddled by Steve Asmussen. John Jacinto and Edward Johnston teamed up for two wins on the day.
The Marie G. Krantz Handicap was taken off the turf and run at a mile and a sixteenth on the main track. Bubbler got her nose down on the wire to best Never Retreat, and it was over fifteen lengths back to show finisher No Use Denying in the 5-horse stakes affair. Eddie Martin Jr. booted home the Bret Calhoun trainee.
On the analysis front, I got home tops Brilliantbrilliant (best bet #2, $5), At First Speight (best bet #3, $6.20), Golden Lady Lee ($9.60), and Ide Better Run ($10.20). I also tabbed the 1st race trifecta ($122), Pick 3 (race 3-5, $63.60), the 7th race exacta ($22), and the late double ($34.20).
Fair Grounds Preview – Jan 31st
A 10-race program will be run on Sunday at the Fair Grounds. Partly cloudy skies are expected with a high temperature of 53. Pick six was hit on Saturday.
Recently hot conditioner Michael Stidham is my trainer to watch. He saddles live wires Hard Copy (4th race), Pretty Persuasion (6th race), and Timely Pursuit (8th race). Brian Hernandez Jr. rides the latter duo, and he’s my rider to watch on Sunday.
My daily full cards from Fair Grounds are available through Today’s Racing Digest (free sign up). I also have a Digest free pick page, and my Sunday free selection is the 5th race from Fair Grounds.
