Fair Grounds Today - Jan 24th

Fair Grounds Recap – Jan 23rd

Fast main track and good turf course. Main track played fair with three wire jobs, four stalkers, and three off the pace types getting the job done. Both turf routes were nabbed by stalkers, and the lone turf sprint was taken by a patient type.

Shaun Bridgmohan and Steve Asmussen teamed up for two more wins. James Graham booted home a pair of stakes winners, and Brian Hernandez Jr. rode two winners on the card. Michael Stidham saddled two winners.

El Caballo returned from a 7+ month layoff with a sharp win in the grassy Bradley Handicap.

Friesan Fire donned the hood and never looked back in the Louisiana Handicap. General Quarters was clearly 2nd best, and distant show finisher Good And Lucky had no shot from outside post in paceless event.

Quiet Temper was hammered down in the Tiffany Lass, and she finished a flat 5th behind $48.60 winner Jody Slew.

SoCal shipper Annihilation rallied from off the pace to score in the 23rd running of the Dr. A. B. Leggio Memorial at 5.5f on the turf.

Ron The Greek rumbled from the back of the pack to take the Grade 3 Lecomte. Maximus Ruler set the pace and held the place in a game effort off the shelf.

Cash Refund showed a high turn of foot and ran his pace rival Euroears into the ground in a sharp wire job tally in the Gaudin Memorial.

Friesan Fire got back on the beam with a frontrunning tally in the Louisiana Handicap at Fair Grounds on Jan 23rd.

Friesan Fire got back on the beam with a front running tally in the Louisiana Handicap at Fair Grounds on Jan 23rd.

On the analysis front, I got home tops A She’s Adorable (best bet #1, $6.80) and Alaina’s Aurora ($8.20). I also tabbed the 7th race trifecta ($42.40), the 12th race exacta (best bet #4, $14.60), the late double ($22.80) and final pick three ($72.20). Note that I tabbed Mambo Galliano on top in the 2nd, but he was disqualified at 7-1.

Fair Grounds Preview – Jan 24th

A 9-race program will be run on Sunday at the Fair Grounds. Cloudy morning skies figure to give way to afternoon sun with a high temperature of 67. Pick six carryover of $3,892.

Three grass races are on the schedule, including an interesting finale for maiden claiming 3yo fillies. Settling Seas is the tepid 7-2 morning line fav, but the Bill Mott trainee could be vulnerable in this wide open event.

My daily full cards from Fair Grounds are available through Today’s Racing Digest (free sign up). I also have a Digest free pick page, and my Sunday free selection is the 6th race from Fair Grounds.

My Horse Racing Nation free selection of the day is the 7th race from Fair Grounds.
