Don’t expect Fletcher Smith to send a Christmas card to either Mike Shanahan or his son, Kyle Shanahan. Smith, the agent for benched quarterback Donovan McNabb, blamed the problems in Washington on father and son Shanahans. After a promising start, the Redskins are 5-9 and out of the playoff hunt.
Said Smith: “I believe there is tension between Donovan and Kyle that’s rooted in the fact that Donovan has suggested modifications to Kyle’s offense based on intricacies Donovan has learned in his NFL career.”
If you believe what Smith has to say, there much be a lot of hate between McNabb and the Shanahans.
“Donovan has asked all year that the team run more screen passes to help manage the pass rush more effectively,” Smith continued. “Ironically, Kyle decided to employ Donovan’s suggestions after he unceremoniously benched him on Sunday.”
Even though Mike Shanahan said he’d welcome McNabb back next year as a backup, McNabb is sure to move on. Two destinations that make sense are the Arizona Cardinals and the Minnesota Vikings.
