Djokovic Edges Nadal in Classic

The last three Grand Slam tournaments in men’s tennis have come down to Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. For the third straight time, Djokovic won — this time in the Australian Open. But this match was anything but routine.

It took nearly six hours for Djokovic to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-5.

“It was obvious on the court for everybody who has watched the match that both of us, physically, we took the last drop of energy that we had from our bodies. We made history tonight and unfortunately there couldn’t be two winners,” said a classy Djokovic.

When the match ended, it was 1:30 in the morning in Melbourne. The crowd, though tired, loved the exciting tennis. And they’ll always be a part of history because this was the longest Grand Slam final ever.
