Deron Williams will undergo wrist surgery, according to a press release by the New Jersey Nets. The star point guard is undergoing the surgery to remove scar tissue and bone fragments in his wrist. He is expected to be ready to go by the beginning of next season. The Nets traded for Deron Williams a few days before the 2011 NBA Trade Deadline in a shocking deal with the Utah Jazz.
Even though the wrist injury has bothered Deron Williams during his entire stint with the Nets, his stats haven’t suffered too much. In 12 games, the native of Texas averaged 15 points, 12.8 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game. In what turned out to be his last outing of the season, he led the Nets to a 107-105 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves with 18 points and 21 assists.
Next season will be a huge season for Deron Williams and the Nets. It’s the last year of his contract — meaning he’ll be looking to prove he’s worth max money while the Nets will be hoping to convince Deron Williams to re-sign.
