Depleted Spurs Lose Fourth Straight

The San Antonio Spurs were without Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Antonio McDyess on Monday against the Portland Trail Blazers. All four players missed the game due to injury. To the surprise of no one, the Blazers were able to send San Antonio to their fourth straight defeat.

The surprise was how close the game was in the fourth quarter. In fact, the Spurs led by eight points early in the final period. However, San Antonio ran out of gas and the Blazers were able to pull away with a 100-92 win. Andre Miller led the way with 26 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the field.

The win improved the Blazers to 43-31 — one game ahead of the New Orleans Hornets for the sixth seed in the Western Conference. Even with the defeat and the losing streak, the Spurs still have the best record in the NBA. The 57-17 Spurs have a 3.5 game lead over the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers.
