Cup Chatter – BC Marathon

Time to take a look at the Breeders’ Cup Marathon. This race has been moved to BC Friday (Nov 6th), and at this stage it is one of the most wide open contests of all the Cup races. It will be run fourteen furlongs over the Pro-Ride surface.

Muhannak invader from Europe and nabbed this race last year, but he has been below his best this season, and it remains to be seen if he will return to defend his title.

Speaking of overseas runners, St. Leger winner Mastery is expected to invade for Godolphin, and King Edward VII hero Father Time is a contender for Henry Cecil and Juddmonte Farms.

Nite Light was last seen finishing 2nd in the Hawthorne Gold Cup, and he scored in the Win and You’re In Turfway Fall Championship in September.

Other possible players include turf marathon specialist Black Astor, and Rick Dutrow has Rising Moon, who bounced back with a nice win last time.

A couple of possible entrants will run in the Grade 3 Sycamore at Keeneland on Oct 22nd. Cloudy’s Knight and Free Fighter both exit graded turf scores, and the latter was making his first start in more than a year at Kentucky Downs last time.

We have the 2009 Breeders Cup thoroughly covered on Horse Racing Nation. I am pleased to announce that we have launched the BC Dashboard!
