Clay Buchholz Injury Update – Back Injury

Clay Buchholz entered the 2011 baseball season as a Cy Young award favorite and the best pitcher on the Boston Red Sox. However, his season has been derailed by a back injury. And now sources are reporting that Clay Buchholz’s back injury is worse than anyone imagined.

At first, Clay Buchholz’s back injury was thought to be relatively minor. But after the injury failed to heal, the starting pitcher went in for a second opinion. The results were not good. The Clay Buchholz injury update is that he may miss the rest of the season due to a lower back stress fracture.

The Red Sox reacted to the news by putting him on the 60-day DL. They also went out and traded for Erik Bedard at the trade deadline.

Last season, Clay Buchholz was 17-7 with a 2.33 ERA. This year, he was 6-3 with a 3.48 — but hasn’t pitched since June 16th. And if these reports are true, don’t expect him on the mound any time soon.
