Cedric Benson in Jail

Cedric Benson has decided to go to jail. He was recently sentenced to 20 days as a result of pleading no contest last month in an incident with an ex-roommate. Following that incident, he was charged with assault with bodily injuries. Pictures that surfaced online showed Benson’s ex-roommate with injuries to his face.

Orginally, Benson was going to serve his time during the Cincinnati Bengals bye week. But his lawyer is now saying that the running back has decided to get his jail stint over with before the beginning of the 2011 NFL season.

“Cedric looks forward to working hard on and off the field as soon as he is released,” said Sam Bassett, Benson’s lawyer.

It’s possible that Benson could be released in time to play in Week 1 for the Bengals. If he does, he’ll start at running back and is sure to get plenty of touches. At worst, Benson should be a go for Week 2.
