It may not have been the victory they wanted but the Bordeaux FC took their 0-0 draw against Marseille as a victory. Bordeaux are the winners of last season’s Ligue 1 cup after winning against Marseille. Understandably Marseille wanted to prove that they should have won the title but were unable to score.

Marseille was forced to play their first home game against Bordeaux at the Stade Velodrome in Montpellier after their stadium was closed after two workers died in a freak accident. Before the game Marseille payed tribute to their late owner Robert Louis-Dreyfus, who recently died of leukemia – he was just 63. His face was plastered on a flag that covered the turf.
