Bills Overpay Ryan Fitzpatrick

Ryan Fitzpatrick is a decent NFL quarterback. At best, he’s an average starter. But don’t tell the Buffalo Bills because they apparently believe that he’s elite. On Friday, the Bills gave Fitzpatrick a contract extension worth nearly $60 million over six years.

Yes. $60 million. For Ryan Freakin’ Fitzpatrick.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why the Buffalo Bills are the Buffalo Bills.

As part of the contract, Fitzgerald will get a $10 signing bonus. He apparently earned this deal by leading the Bills to a 4-2 record so far this year. On the season, Fitzpatrick has thrown for 1,477 yards and 12 touchdowns. That said, the QB out of Harvard has looked mediocre for long stretches this season.

Once the Bills flame out and Fitzpatrick returns to earth, this is going to look like one of the stupider contract of recent history.

At least Fitzpatrick would know not to say stupider.

Wow, what a terrible and biased article. Overpaid? Stupider contract of recent history? First off, Fitzpatrick is NOT being paid elite quarterback money. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning both signed contract extensions that average out to $18 million a year. Fitz, on the other hand, signed for money that would be comparable to Matt Cassel or Kevin Kolb…

Cassel: Six years, $63 million. $28 million guaranteed.
Kolb: Six years, $65 million. $21.5 million guaranteed.
Fitzpatrick: Six years, $59 million. $24 million guaranteed.

And maybe it’s just me, but I’d take Fitzpatrick over either of those guys in a heartbeat. He’s only led his team to a 4-2 record, beat the Patriots for the first time in forever, and put up 1477 yards with 12 TDs and 6 INTs, and has a QB rating of 95.3, in this, his first year as Bills starter coming out of training camp…meaning he got to work with the first team exclusively, not take over the team part way into the season, as he did last year when he took over for an ineffective Trent Edwards.

Next time do a little research before posting such a blatantly misinformed and negative article.

Wow, what a terrible and biased article. Overpaid? Stupidest contract in recent history? It’s not like Fitz is getting Brady or Manning type money here (both average $18 million a year with their respective extensions). No, Fitzpatrick’s money is more comparable to Matt Cassel or Kevin Kolb…

Cassel: Six years, $63 million. $28 million guaranteed.
Kolb: Six years, $65 million. $21.5 million guaranteed.

Now, wouldn’t most teams rather have Fitzpatrick than either of those guys, especially since he’s finally showing what he can do as the teams starting QB coming out of a (shortened) training camp.

Do a little research before you go and trash a player and/or organization for no apparent reason.
