A number of Major League Baseball pitchers are off to hot starts in 2011. If April is any indication, the 2011 Cy Young Award races in the American League and National League will be fierce. The cool thing about this list below is it features both old, wily pitchers and up-and-coming flamethrowers who could revolutionize the game of baseball.
1. Jered Weaver, Los Angeles Angels
The Angels wish Jered Weaver could pitch everyday. So far this season, he’s 6-0 with a 0.99 ERA and a WHIP of 0.79. Amazing numbers!
2. Justin Masterson, Cleveland Indians
Justin Masterson is living up to his potential this season. He’s already 5-0 with a 2.18 ERA for the Indians in five starts.
3. Josh Johnson, Florida Marlins
If he were in a bigger market, Josh Johnson would be a legend. His stats this year are fantastic: 3-0 with a 1.06 ERA and a 0.65 WHIP.
4. Michael Pineda, Seattle Mariners
Watch this guy pitch. For real. This rookie for the Mariners has the best fastball in the game. To begin his career, he’s 3-1 with a 1.78 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP.

5. Josh Beckett, Boston Red Sox
After a horrible season last year, Josh Beckett has bounced back in a big way. He’s 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA and a WHIP of 0.79.
